LISDEL, LACSOP to Test the Lagos State BHCPF Citizen-led Accountability Framework

The Accountability Framework was developed in collaboration with Lagos State Civil Society Partnership (LACSOP), Health Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the Lagos State Government and in partnership with other partners. It was facilitated by LISDEL.

The result of the pilot study of the Accountability Framework was presented to stakeholders during the last meeting of the State Oversight Committee (SOC).

The presentation of the Framework highlighted gaps and challenges with the BHCPF implementation in the State part of which included low levels of utilization of the BHCPF by community members.

The statutory meeting of the SOC was held on Thursday 18th January 2023 and had in attendance the Honorable Commissioner for Health, BHCPF implementing Gateways, and other critical and important stakeholders in the health sector.

The Honorable Commissioner for Health, Prof Akin Abayomi represented by the Permanent Secretary during the presentation of the framework was pleased with development of the Framework and the pilot study.

He however mandated that a second pilot study should be conducted to ensure capturing of quality data and to triangulate and validate the data and results obtained from the first pilot.

Subsequent to the second pilot study, the Framework and its tracking tool will be validated and fully operationalized in the State to track the implementation of the BHCPF.

The Framework will ensure availability of information about the BHCPF as well as transparent and efficiency in its implementation.

It was also resolved at the SOC meeting that there is a need to recruit more midwives and increase sensitization of community members of the availability of the BHCPF and to enroll and access care from the BHCPF facilities in the state.
