Tinubu: I’m committed to women empowerment, gender equality

President Bola Tinubu has said he is committed to advancing the cause of women empowerment and gender equality in Nigeria

Tinubu also praised Nigerian women for their contributions to the country’s development, describing them as drivers of positive change.

Represented by Mr George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federal (SGF), at the Empower-Her Nigeria programme in Abuja on Tuesday, Tinubu emphasised his commitment to advancing women’s empowerment and gender equality.

“As the President of Nigeria, I am committed to advancing the cause of women empowerment and gender equality in our dear nation,” he stated.

Tinubu acknowledged the critical role women play in providing healthcare and justice, noting that they are the backbone of communities.

To address the challenges facing women, Tinubu highlighted the need to tackle limited access to education and healthcare, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and economic disparity.

He emphasised the importance of investing in agricultural training, access to land, and financial services for women farmers to increase their yield and contribute to Nigeria’s food security.

Additionally, Tinubu stressed the need to address health disparities affecting women and girls by increasing access to quality healthcare, education, and economic opportunities.

Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, disclosed that funds raised would be used to establish mobile courts to expedite GBV cases and ensure victims receive justice.

Philanthropist Chief Arthur Eze donated N100 million to support the initiative, stating that the gesture would alleviate hardship faced by vulnerable women.

Other key highlights of the event included fund donations from various personalities, businesspersons, and organisations, as well as the inauguration of integrity ambassadors.
