Background/Rationale of the SPAG PROJECT

The Legislative Initiative for Sustainable Development (LISDEL) as part of its mission to support health system strengthening efforts in Nigeria and improve the overall socio-economic wellbeing of all Nigerians is currently implementing the Strengthening Government Partnerships and Advocacy for PHC (SPAG) Project. The Gates Foundation-funded Project is being implemented at the national level and in Lagos, Kaduna and Gombe States, with the goal of optimizing Primary Health Care (PHC) and targeting RMNCAH-N through the delivery of the following primary outcomes:

  • Improved government awareness, oversight, accountability, and implementation of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF);
  • Improved salience and capacity of policymakers and government stakeholders to effectively influence health systems strengthening efforts including BHCPF; and
  • Improved inclusion of new voices and champions, particularly women, to drive PHC advocacy priorities within government platforms
