Dr William Kwame Amankrah, the Ashanti Regional Director of Education, believes that the introduction of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education in Ghana’s education system can help eradicate the “chew and pour” phenomenon among students.
According to Dr Amankrah, STEM education aims to expose students to practical problem-solving approaches, moving away from the norm of memorization for the sole purpose of passing exams without a fundamental understanding of concepts.
Speaking at the Energy Commission’s Renewable Energy Challenge for Senior High Schools in the Ashanti Region, the Regional Director emphasized the importance of STEM education for building Ghana’s human resource base.
The challenge, organized by the Energy Commission in collaboration with the Education and Energy Ministries, focused on the theme “Mechanised Small-Scale Agriculture Using Renewable Energy Technologies.”
It aimed to foster creative thinking, provide mentorship to students in secondary institutions, and provide a platform for showcasing their innovative projects.
