NCDC develops tool to verify COVID-19 test results

The Director-General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, says the Federal Government is determined to curb fake COVID-19 test results.

Speaking during the media briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 on Monday, Dr. Ihekweazu urged Nigerians to use only the accredited private laboratories for travel-related COVID-19 tests.

He added that the agency has developed a tool to verify COVID-19 test results.

He said “We have developed and piloted a tool to verify COVID-19 test results, which will go live in a few days.

“We’re now confident that test results out of accredited private labs in Nigeria can now be verified anywhere in the world.”

Recall that the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control on Sunday warned Nigerians to be wary of fake COVID – 19 vaccines in the country.

The organization also warned Nigerians to “refrain from procuring the vaccine online to avoid falling into the wrong hands of merchants of death.”

The agency warned Nigerians to be vigilant and expose anyone who might want to divert COVID-19 vaccines donated by international donors for profiteering.

The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, issued the warning in a statement by its Resident Media Consultant, Sayo Akintola.

She said, “The public must be on the lookout for these spurious and counterfeit vaccines and other regulated products,” she warned.
