Mamora, Tomori, experts to discuss Nigeria’s preparation for pandemics

Nigerian Minister of State for Health, Dr. Olorunnimbe Mamora; Professor of Virology, Oyewale Tomori; and Professor of Molecular Biology and Genomics from Redeemers University, Christian Happi will be attending The Conversation Africa dialogue.

Conversation Africa, a platform that discusses critical socio-economic and political issues across the continent, is organising a science-policy dialogue to discuss how Nigeria handled the COVID-19 pandemic, the lessons learnt during the pandemic, and Nigeria’s preparedness for future pandemics.

The two-hour event with the theme ‘Nigeria and the next pandemic: preparedness, response and vaccine’, will hold virtually on Thursday, 1st of July, 2021 at 10 am WAT (West African Time).

The keynote speaker for the event, Dr. Olorunnimbe Mamora, who has over 30 years of experience in medical practices, will address the lessons Nigeria has learnt over the 16 months of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Mamora’s address will be followed by a 15-minute opening remark by Prof. Happi, who will speak about Nigeria’s testing capacity.

After his remark, the professor will open a moderated panel session that will involve all the panelists and will last for an hour.

Joining Happi and Tomori in the panel session are Executive Secretary, Nigerian Academy of Science, Doyin Odubanjo; Specialist in medical microbiology, Professor Sade Ogunsola; and President of the South African Medical Research Council, Glenda Gray.
