The Legislative Initiative for Sustainable Development (LISDEL), as part of its mission to improve delivery and expand coverage of quality healthcare to all Nigerians particularly women and children targeting delivery of the Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child Health + Nutrition (RMNCAH + N) objectives to optimize primary health care (PHC) outcomes engaged the National Council of Women Society NCWS in Lagos State to catalyze processes.
LISDEL recognized that women have the capacity and can play pivotal roles in strengthening the RMNCAH-N outcomes in the country by raising their voices and advocating to key actors, to take relevant actions to strengthen the implementation of health policies including the expansion of financial risk protection to women and children, to catalyze progress towards achieving UHC and improving health indices and outcomes.
An engagement meeting with the executive officers of the NCWS was held at the Mainland Local Government Council, Apapa Road, Ebute Metta, Lagos state. In attendance were the NCWS officials and LISDEL team.
The purpose was to get commitment from the NCWS to advocate and possibly champion RMNCAH-N advocacy objectives and catalyze actions towards addressing challenges with maternal and child health, as well as optimize primary health care delivery in the State, amongst others.
Speaking with the NCWS officials, the State Coordinator for LISDEL Olanrewaju Deborah gave an overview of LISDEL’s work in the State. She noted that LISDEL has been working very closely with various government structures in the State to achieve these objectives.
She also noted that LISDEL has secured the commitment of the First Lady to lead other champions to advocate for improved outcomes in the State. The First Lady will also, alongside the champions will lead campaigns to sensitize members of the public and create awareness on status of RMNCAH-N in the State.
The NWCS officials on their part appreciated LISDEL for the good work and committed to partner with the organization in achieving the RMNCAH+N objectives in Lagos State.
