Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu in collaboration with Kebbi State Ministry of Health and the Opthalmological Society of Nigeria. Hon. Dr. Nasir Muhammad a Consultant Ophthalmologist from UDUTH, Sokoto in an interview during the program stated that many of the beneficiaries the day before they got treatedcould not walk on their own, but after the treatment they walked away on their own. “So, to have people so generous
and caring like Hon. Sununu in this constituency is really something that we professionals, especially from the Opthalmological Society of Nigeria appreciate. We are proud of him and this noble gesture”, he said. The free cataract program is in addition to free caesarean section for pregnant women, and other interventions to further improve access of constituents to basic healthcare service.
Dr. Sununu in an interview during the program said “sight is a major issue because it has both social and economic implications to the individual and the family. For example, if someone is blind, he cannot take care of himself and his family.”

Some of the beneficiaries who had made frantic efforts to get treatment for their eye problems expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as an intervention like no other. Dr. Sununu also inspected ongoing renovation of some health facilities across the Federal Constituency.
