Federal Ministry of Health Signs MoU with Belgium to Boost Biotechnology In Nigeria.

Partnership Aims to Revolutionize Healthcare Sector and Local Production of Lifesaving Medicine

The Federal Ministry of Health has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Univercells SA, a Belgian public limited liability company based in Brussels. The agreement signifies a crucial step towards integrating biotechnology into Nigeria’s healthcare landscape and establishing vital infrastructure for local research, development, and manufacturing of essential medicines for both human and animal health.

Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, the coordinating minister of health and social welfare, emphasized that the initiative aims to bolster Nigeria’s healthcare sector and promote the domestic production of critical medicines, vaccines, and biologics.

This effort aligns with the presidential Initiative geared towards unlocking Nigeria’s healthcare value chain and restructuring the nation’s health product manufacturing ecosystem.

The MoU highlights the collaboration’s focus on facilitating cooperation between Nigeria and Univercells SA to enhance training capabilities and establish the necessary infrastructure for biotechnological advancement. The ultimate goal is to revolutionize the availability and affordability of essential biotechnology products in Nigeria.

Expressing gratitude to Univercells SA’s leadership, the Federal Ministry of Health conveyed optimism about the positive impact this partnership will have on Nigeria’s healthcare landscape.

Through this collaboration, which encompasses various subsidiaries of Univercells SA, the Federal Ministry of Health aims to expedite the development of the biotech sector and improve access to essential healthcare products for all Nigerians.
