The Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) has said the introduction of biometrics in its operations saved N380 million.
The fund, according to the management, has been deployed to the building of a modern five-storey befitting tower in Warri.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Bashorun Askia Ogieh, made the disclosure after a tour of over 49 projects across the state.
He said the new technology that captures fingerprints and facial recognition was introduced to ensure that workers perform their duties and earn their emoluments as and when due.
Ogieh explained that every worker receives his/her clocking details via text monthly for transparency.
The MD said one of the first things he did on assumption was to upgrade the personnel/payroll system and audit with a view to plugging loopholes.
“We migrated to an updated personnel payroll system technology. This has led to a rise in the level of transparency as it has largely eliminated human errors and infractions. Our current system enables the generation of payslips and same transmitted to the e-mail boxes of our staff,” he clarified.
The chief executive said DESOPADEC has discarded the imposition of projects on communities.
According to him, the commission’s policy thrust rests on intervention in critical infrastructure in the known sectors of education, health, power, housing, transportation and commerce, adding that the organisation had equally been resolved to upscale human capital development as it relates to women and youths.
