LISDEL was one of the organizations inaugurated as members of the Joint Working Committee (JWC) on the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) on November 2nd, 2021, with terms of reference that include effective coordination of efforts to accelerate implementation and accountability.
The inauguration builds on objectives to strengthen the operationalization of the Fund by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR), with support from the United Kingdom FCDO funded PERL, who undertook an analysis of issues; seeking a way forward for accelerated and coordinated implementation. The analysis identified lack of synergy amongst stakeholders as one of the major issues that led to the development of a draft stakeholder coordination framework.
Juliana Abude-Aribo, LISDEL’s Executive Director, speaking at the event, reiterated the importance of the BHCPF towards financial risk protection for Nigerians in accessing quality healthcare; and in Nigeria’s quest for universal health coverage. She added that additional effective coordination of the various efforts and response will amplify voices calling for effective utilization of the Fund.
Other members of the committee includes House of Representatives, Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Ministry of Budget and National Planning, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), World Health Organization (WHO), Health Sector Reform Foundation of Nigeria (HERFON), Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Federal Ministry of Finance, Federal Ministry of Health, National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), FCDO/PERL, ABC Health, Private Sector Health Alliance of Nigeria (PSHAN) and the Senate Committee on Health care Services.
