Cholera kills six, 33 hospitalised in Plateau

Six persons have died of cholera while 33 others were hospitalized in five local government areas of Plateau State.

According to a source in the State Ministry of Health, the affected local governments are Jos South, Jos North, Riyom, Barkin Ladi and Bassa, adding that all the recorded cases were within the space of five days.

The source, who claimed the state government is leaving no stone unturned to curtail the spread of the disease, added that health personnel have been deployed to all affected communities for sensitisation.

When contacted the Plateau State Commissioner for Health, Dr Nimkong Lar, confirmed the outbreak of the disease and advised the public to be mindful of their sources of water and ensure that only water from trusted sources was consumed.

He cautioned the public against indiscriminate eating of fruits and vegetables, saying that such items must be washed thoroughly before they are consumed.
