Senator Tejuoso Solicits Senate Support For FMC’s Tele-Medicine Conference Hall

A Senator, representing Ogun Central Senatorial District at the 8th National Assembly, Senator Lanre Tejuoso has tasked the Senate to ensure proper appropriation for the equipment of Muhammadu Buhari International Conference Centre and Telemedicine Hall at the Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, Ogun state. 

Senator Tejuoso, who facilitated the International Conference Centre noted that, the federal government has spent so much for the construction of the centre which according to him, would make health care reach the people in the grass roots. 

He explained that the Telemedicine  will house not less than 500 health experts who will be available to help in speaking with the people.

He however pleaded to the National Assembly to fast track the funding and provision of modern facilities to the Telemedicine centre.  

In his reaction, the President of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan  who was represented by the Senate Committee Chairman on Health, Senator Ibrahim Oloriegbe noted that the bill on the establishment of the University of Medical Sciences, Abeokuta, will be passed by the Senate in April. 

He further added that the Senate had been able to use the opportunity of the Covid19 to provide additional resources for Infrastructure.

“The bill on the University of Medical Sciences, Abeokuta, hopefully will be passed by the Senate in April, I want to assure this gathering that we are going to have the public hearing next week  and the report will be ready for presentation to the Senate in April. 

“We have been able to use the opportunity of the Covid19 to provide additional resources, particularly for infrastructure that will enable us if we have a pandemic such as Covid19 in the future to address it,” he said.

The Speaker, Federal House of Representative, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila who disclosed that a lot still need to be done to overcome the deficiency in the health sector for the Nigerian people, praised Abiodun for his giant strides in the rehabilitation of roads and health facilities  while adding that overcoming the deficiency requires collaboration  between government and the private sector.
