Allow children to choose their career courses- Parents urged

Social Watch Africa (SoWA) and Mizpah International School marked the 2023 World Youth Skills Day with a call for parents and guardians to encourage their wards to pursue subject areas and courses in line with their strengths and talents.

The event, held at the Junior High School (JHS), brought together students, teachers, entrepreneurs, and career development experts to inspire teenagers to discover their skills.

Speaking on the theme “Your Skill Is an Asset for Self & National Development,” the speakers shared their experiences of initially missing out on developing their talents but eventually rediscovering and exploring them.

Mr. Kojo Asiamah Addo, Lead Advocate of Social Watch Africa, emphasized the importance of allowing children to explore their natural strengths and talents.

He stated, “It is imperative for parents to understand that children are dynamic and are full of skills and potentials, and the best way to make them successful is to allow them to explore their strengths and talents.”

Ms. Mabel Simpson, an Entrepreneur and Team Lead of mSimps Company, highlighted the significance of Technical and Vocational education and training.

She urged parents to avoid pushing their children into courses they are not interested in, as it hampers the realization of their full potential in life.
